I’m Jen - I’m a queer and trans artist, activist, advocate, and educator from Ōtautahi, Aotearoa. I’m currently director and healthcare lead at Qtopia, a social change and social support service for the whole LGBTQIA+ community based out of Ōtautahi, running a national training programme for gender diversity in primary care. I’m also the Vice-President of PATHA, the Professional Association for Trans Health Aotearoa.

I’m also a photographer, a writer, a public speaker, an ex-radio DJ, a less-ex party DJ, an art and festival producer, a homebrewer, a cat mama, and was once in a band that was described as the punkest band in Ōtautahi.

The Edit is a mostly-irregular newsletter, a place for some longer-form writing, some series of pieces, a place for thinking aloud, a place for organising and connecting. Haere mai - welcome.

Jennifer Shields is no longer writing on substack - substack's lack of willingness to take action on the hotbed of terf and nazi disinformation on this platform mean it's not a safe environment for me or my audience. Find me at blog.jenniferkshields.nz
